Readers’ Choice
I have just run out of time to post anything. So, what I’ll do is post some randomly-selected image and ask my readership to choose my next post. Depending on what you suggest, I will either turn your ideas into multiple posts or somehow work them into one monster post. Just leave some suggestions in the comments and I will do my best to oblige. Oh, and generally stick to topics involving beer and/or indie rock.
(Hopefully, this doesn’t end up as a Freshly Pressed post and I find over a thousand suggestions of what to post.)
Do you want the upcoming posts to relate to the picture? If so, two thoughts:
1) Be the Mothman. Predict the 2012 trends in indie rock and craft brewing. Will 90s nostalgia rule the college radio airwaves next year? Will an undrinkably hoppy IPA/DIPA be all the rage when it hits store shelves? Etc.?
2) The nail on the moth makes me think maybe you should post about the process of collecting. Does the concept of ownership intrinsically change the meaning of a song? Can you really “own” a beer?
And so on.
I was worried that you were going off on a moth-themed tangent, but you came through with two good suggestions. Thanks, Mike.
Some non-moth-related ideas, feel free to use or disgard as you see fit!
1) A beginners guide to homebrewing would be fantastic, or a look at how you got into it.
2) How you consume music and how has it changed over the years? What formats/media are your favourites (vinyl/radio/streaming/victrola etc)?
3) Favourite drinking songs?
4) A mysterious benefactor gives you an unlimited budget to build your perfect bar. Describe it.
Excellent ideas. I may have to think on the homebrew idea. A lot has already been shared by those who know way more than I. I’ll have to consider my own angle.
I liked the music and beer pairing you did the one time with Okkervil River. Something like that would be cool.
Yeah, that was supposed to be every post, but I’ve done maybe two. It’s probably time to get back to that sort of review. I have some albums and beers to review, so I may have to fulfill your wildest dream.
1. Trade Ipods with someone for a week–preferably someone with tastes someone divergent from your own. Only listen to each other’s music. Both parties report back.
2. You are on a cruise ship that gets ambushed by Indonesian pirates. You gave them a watch so they will let you live, but they are going to deposit you on an island with a machete, a hand cranked cd-player and a magic eternally chilly beer cooler that automatically refills when you run out–the only catch is that this magical beer chiller can only replenish the supply of 3 beers. They tell you that you may take only three albums with you. There is a good chance you might be stuck on this island for the rest of eternity. What 3 beers and what 3 albums would you choose to be on the hot, possibly enchanted, uninhabited island with?
1. I don’t want to let go of my iPod for two reasons. First, it’s my iPod and I don’t want someone’s grubby hands all over it. It’s old and has continued to work despite wear and tear and age and whatnot. I’d like it to stay working. Second, I don’t want anyone to find some of the more embarrassing tracks, artists, and/or albums on my iPod. They’re not all mine and they’re not all in my regular rotation, but if it ever got out that Dashboard Confessional was on my iPod…
2. This idea I like and will use. Stay tuned, the destroyer.
